Lesson 6
Dear Teni,
This is the second of two replies to your message of June 13th. My comments and corrections follow.
Just in case the first reply did not get to you, I attach the new lesson to this email, too.
Sincerely,
Prof. Sue Garreis
Dear Prof. Susan Garreis
Hello
Thank you for your reply and your corrections.
Your email response times were sooner than the other times.
> Yes, indeed they were. I write this using a new laptop. I knew the old laptop was failing, so I got the message out as quickly as I could last week. I went too fast, forgot to attach the new lesson and had to send a second message really fast. I did this on Friday the 13th, but it was a lucky day for me. The messages went through and the computer didn't fail. The hard drive was worn out. The laptop was five years old. That is ancient for a laptop. Fortunately, it sent a warning message that something was wrong with the hard drive. I am grateful it did not just fail suddenly.
> On Saturday the 14th I went with a friend to a computer store. He showed me what equipment I needed to buy. What a relief! So I spent parts of Saturday and Sunday installing the new laptop software, uploading the files from the old computer, and learning how to use a touchpad (thanks to my granddaughter). So far so good. I still have a lot to learn about the new laptop, but I can do the basic stuff now. Later I will sort through and upload my photos. I transferred about ten thousand to the backup DVDs! I had no idea I had so many. I've got a lot of photo sorting to do! Yikes!
> Is it easy for you to get a new phone or computer and transfer the old stuff to the new machine?
Those traffic reports are extremely helpful!
-> Thank you.
I will continue to use slightly more complex English.
-> Thank you very much. I think this is a good chance for my study.
Today is Friday the 13th.
Friday the 13th is a special day in the US.
Friday is an unlucky day. Thirteen is an unlucky number.
So Friday the 13th is a double unlucky day.
-> In Vietnam, Friday the 13th is also a normal day, but my friends were posting on Facebook, "Today is Friday the 13th. Be Careful!" I had lots of laughs when I saw it.
Some people are afraid of the date and stay inside. Other people laugh at the idea of a bad luck day.
I am at my daughter's house this weekend. Tonight we watched a zombie movie to celebrate Friday the 13th. It was so bad that it was funny. Kate made a drink called the "Zombie" It was a very strong drink! I had one sip. We had a great evening. We ate tacos for dinner, then watched the movie.
-> Wow!! Zombie cocktail looks delicious.
Thank you for your link.
Is there an unlucky number in Japan?
Is there an unlucky day?
-> In Vietnam we do not have a bad luck day like Friday the 13th is in the U.S.
I think the unlucky number in Japan is number 4 because it is transcribed as "shi", transliteration of words like "shinu", that means death.
> I have heard that 4 is an unlucky number in Japan.
With best wishes
Nguyen Hung Thien

I am in Delaware now. My daughter and I needed to get to Delaware tonight. She was on vacation at my house over the weekend and returns to work tomorrow. I have an appointment in Delaware on Monday. So we came up to Delaware tonight. It was a lovely drive with very little traffic.
If you were to go for a one day vacation, where would you go?
